When we decide to work at making lifestyle choices, it isn't the normal challenges we face that may interfere with our goals. It can be our friends and loved ones!

The decision is a Very private and personal one. However, when we begin implementing new habits, or changes in our routine that is old, we may notice a public reaction. Since what we do has a trickle impact on those around us, responses from friends and family might not be what we anticipate. Not meaning to, our resolve to stick may be undermined by others.

Out to dinner with a friend, she urges you to share with the Brownie Delight for dessert, telling you that you have done so well in your diet, you deserve a treat. Just a little bit won't make that much of a difference, will it? You go to Mom's for dinner, and she is cooked of your favorite and incredibly fattening dishes. She'll be insulted if you don't indulge, and go for seconds. You're getting ready to head out the door to the gym on a Sunday morning, and your partner convinces you heading out to brunch will be such a wonderful thing to do. It was a busy week, and you hardly had any time!

It feels without meaning to If everyone around us is attempting to sabotage our efforts. We tell ourselves that we could make up the exercise at another time, elsewhere or we are going to be diligent with our food choices. We find we are not getting the results and we might even give up. And we blame ourselves for our lack of willpower!

1. Allow the important people in your life understand your intent to adopt more healthy habits, and let them know how they can help. If you do not explain the significance of your lifetime exercise decision and be certain about what they should and shouldn't do to help out you, they can not possibly know.

2. Schedule your exercise sessions on Your calendar and treat them as you would a business or doctor's appointment. When asked to join in activities that conflict with your fitness plan, explain how much you would like to participate but that you have a previous engagement. See whether the plan can be shifted to accommodate your schedule.

3. Be proactive in avoiding social Situations which may derail your goals. Meeting friends for supper? You are the one to select a place where you know that you can make a choice. Tell Mom in advance that you're currently trying to eat healthily, and suggest she prepares a dish that works into your strategy. If Friday after work is Happy Hour with friends, head to the early morning or lunch hour.

4. Maintain your wellness vision in your mind Times, and be polite but firm about your decisions. When family or friends tempt you to eat what you prefer not to, or skip an exercise session remind them how important this is to you. Don't preach or try to change the mind of others; just remind yourself how good you feel when you follow through on your plans.

5. Be flexible. There Will be times when rearranging exercise sessions, or eating is unavoidable. Keep in your mind that you can balance exercise and nutrition with the 80/20 principle. The 20 percent that is somewhat off will not destroy all of your hard work and efforts if 80% of the time you are on target.

Remember, your friends And household do need you to be happy and successful. Include them in the Process, and you increase your chances of achieving your goals.
