Flight Attendant Career Tips - Your Duties As a Flight Attendant

Flight Attendants at one time were there to look pretty and prance about the cabin on-board... but not anymore! Even though it's still an amazing way of life, but it's also hard work (at least while you're on the aircraft - but not when you're lying on a beach in Sydney or buying Hong Kong on your stopover!)

So, it's like this; now you are expected to be a Jill-of-all-trades! As a Flight Attendant you'll be expected to be:

- a first-aider

- a waitress

- a bartender

- an emergency coordinator

- a customer service winner

- a duty-free sales man

- an airline ambassador

All in the same job role for your airline without a single hair out-of-place or lipstick smudged, even following a 12-hour flight (and having walked around 7 miles throughout the world)... and all with a dazzling smile!

Of course, it goes without saying that the reason Flight Attendants are on-board is for their passengers' security and comfort. They provide onboard services. But let us look at some of the typical duties you'll be expected to perform if you are lucky enough undergo the tough airline job interview process and to be chosen:
  •     Attend preflight briefings on details of the flight
  •     Ensure that adequate supplies of refreshments and emergency equipment are on board
  •     If requested, assist in cleaning the cottage between flights
  •     Demonstrate the use of safety and emergency gear
  •     Ensure all passengers have seat belts fastened and guarantee other security requirements are met
  •     Serve, and sometimes market, beverages, meals, or snacks
  •     Take саrе оf раssеngеrs' nееds, раrtісulаrlу thоsе wіth sресіаl nееds
  •     Rеаssurе раssеngеrs durіng flіght, suсh аs whеn the aircraft hit turbulence
  •     Administer first aid to passengers or coordinate first aid attempts, when needed
  •     Direct passengers in case of emergency

Airlines are required by law to supply a certain number of flight attendants or cabin crew members to the security and safety of passengers onboard. The crew's job is to ensure that security regulations are followed by everyone and to keep passengers safe. They are also there to make flights as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for passengers.

Before the aircraft is ready for boarding, the Captain (pilot) informs attendants about evacuation procedures, the duration of the flight, and weather conditions. Flight Attendants have to ensure that emergency equipment is currently working, the cottage is clean, and there is an adequate supply of food and drinks. They greet passengers as they direct them to their seats and board the aircraft, helping as needed.

Before the plane takes off, they'll be going through the safety demonstration, either by playing a video recording or demonstrating its usage in individual (watch out for other Crew members playing tricks if it's your first time doing a live demo). They also make certain that seat belts are fastened, seats are secured in the vertical position, and all items are properly stowed by company policy and international law.

As I mentioned previously, it goes without saying that the F/As are utilized for the protection of the passengers. This responsibility ranges from fighting fires, dealing with administering first aid and directing evacuations. They are also required to offer excellent standards of customer service by answering questions about the flight, attending to passengers with special needs, help anyone needing assistance, and assist all passengers.

Beforе thе рlаnе lаnds, flіght аttеndаnts оnсе аgаіn mаkе сеrtаіn thаt sеаt bеlts аrе fаstеnеd, sеаts аrе lосkеd іn thе vеrtісаl роsіtіоn, аnd аll саrrу-оn іtеms аrе рroperly stowed.

After the plane has landed and all passengers have left the aircraft, flight attendants take inventory of alcoholic beverages headsets, duty-free sales, and payments. They also submit reports to the airline business on the cabin's condition, as well as on any issues which may have occurred during the flight.

Then they go partying and shopping in some location that is fantastic! That's why you wish to join an airline, right? That's what it is all about!
